Description of course:
If you have an idea or want to come up with one for a non-fiction book, this course will give you the tools to create and sell a non-fiction book proposal.
This INTENSIVE, one-on-one course is conducted via e-mail and on the Web, allowing you to participate at your own pace and on your own schedule. You are the only student. You receive the coursebook and assignments and have one-on-one discussions and feedback from the instructor.
Almost anyone can write a non-fiction book – you can, too! Whether you are interested in how-to, creative, self-help, technical, children's, descriptive or other types of non-fiction, this course will take you through the process of developing the idea, writing the proposal and sending it out to appropriate agents or publishers. Learn what the most important part of a non-fiction book proposal is and how to grab an editor's attention. A book proposal is much more than a summary of what your book is about it - it is a selling tool, something many authors do not realize.
Find out why you shouldn't actually write the book before you sell it. Learn when to send a proposal or query to agents and editors. Understand the process that a non-fiction book proposal goes through at a publishing house. Pick up tips on book proposal format and technique that will help yours stand out from the crowd. At the end of the course, students will have a complete book proposal, cover letter and query, as well a list of places to send it to.
The course is developed and facilitated by Brette McWhorter Sember, award-winning author of over 20 adult and children's non-fiction books.
Upon successful payment processing and registration completion, you will be able to download course materials from your account.
Class must be completed within three months of enrollment. No refunds or postponements accepted.
